Different Types Of Laptop Cooling Pad

There are, basically, two types of laptop cooling pad (well maybe two and a half).

They make sure that air can circulate around your laptop and get in to the cooling vents naturally. They usually do this by making sure that there is enough of a gap beneath and around your laptop – and sometimes they have a specially designed shape to help them achieve this.

These are great if you don’t want to put an additional load on your laptop’s battery. In addition to battery conservation, no fan means no noise (although most good quality laptop cooling pad fans are usually pretty low noise). They work just fine for less powerful laptops or fairly short usage times.

You can also get some foldable and rollable laptop cooling “mats” which use crystals with heat absorbing properties. Again, these don’t need any power and generate no noise.

These also ensure a good flow of air in to the laptop – but they use a fan, or fans, for an extra cooling boost.

Usually they plug into the usb port of the laptop in question, so there s some drain on the power. That might not be an issue if you’re connected to the mains of course. The fans can also produce a little noise, but they tend to be very quiet – usually quieter than the laptop itself. Some cooling pads let you adjust the fan speed, so you can control both cooling and noise in that manner.

These can be active or passive – and they also modify the angle of your laptop to bring the display higher.

These work best with an external keyboard (these are pretty cheap these days) and are great if you want to adopt a better posture when using your laptop.
